Application notes
Machine Vision Lighting for Robot Guidance
Reliable robot guidance depends on precise, consistent machine vision lighting that enables accurate detection of object position, orientation, and shape in real time. LED illuminators for conveyor-based robot vision systems must deliver high contrast and uniform illumination across varying object surfaces and sizes. Roder Vision LED lighting solutions integrate with GigE Vision cameras and industrial robots, providing stable continuous or strobe illumination for demanding pick, place, and sorting applications on automated production lines.
Lighting Strategies for Pick-and-Place Robots
Accurate electronic component placement requires high-resolution imaging with optimal LED illumination to identify component orientation, polarity, and position with sub-millimeter precision. Machine vision lighting for pick-and-place robots must deliver high-contrast images of PCB fiducials, component leads, and solder pads under varying reflectivity conditions. Roder Vision LED illuminators support high-speed inspection cycles with stable, pulse-controlled strobe lighting compatible with smart cameras and embedded vision systems used in electronics assembly and SMT production lines.
Flat Dome LED Illumination in Vision Systems for Belt Conveyors
Flat dome LED illuminators provide diffuse, shadow-free illumination for machine vision inspection of objects on belt conveyors, eliminating reflections and specular glare on reflective surfaces. The flat dome design delivers highly uniform light distribution, ideal for surface defect detection, label inspection, and color sorting on conveyor systems. Roder Vision flat dome LED illuminators combine homogeneous diffuse illumination with efficient heat management for stable continuous operation in food, pharmaceutical, logistics, and electronics manufacturing inspection applications.
Vision Systems for Collaborative Robots (Cobot Lighting)
Collaborative robots (cobots) operating alongside human workers require compact, efficient machine vision lighting for reliable object detection without visual discomfort. LED ring lights and low-profile illuminators designed for cobot integration provide stable, flicker-free illumination for accurate part identification, gripping, and quality verification. Roder Vision LED systems offer flexible mounting options and PWM dimming control for precise intensity adjustment, ensuring consistent vision performance in human-robot collaboration environments across assembly, inspection, and logistics applications.

Frequently Asked Questions
The DC5 features a modular matrix design based on 100mm LED increments with a central camera mounting aperture. Selectable lens angles of 15, 30, 45, or 120 degrees provide precise beam control for diverse inspection distances and object geometries, unlike fixed-optics ring lights.
The DC5 offers four lens options: no lens (120 degree natural emission), 15 degree narrow beam, 30 degree medium beam, and 45 degree wide beam. These selectable optics allow fine-tuned control of illumination angle for each specific vision inspection task.
The DC5 is available in 300x300mm and 500x500mm standard emission area formats. Additional custom sizes are available on request, subject to longer production lead times.
The DC5 supports continuous operation, external ON/OFF triggering, and PWM dimming via PLC interface. This enables seamless synchronization with automated production lines, including fast camera-triggered strobing for high-speed inspection applications.
Each DC5 unit undergoes a 48-hour operational burn-in test with individual functional certification. HTTM thermal management ensures stable LED performance, and CE certification confirms compliance with European electrical safety standards.
